Poor weather can bring excellent photo opportunities such as these buck crossing a ridge in bad weather in the Tala Reserve. Tala does not have any predators so one can get close to otherwise flighty game.

We got married at Zingela, on the banks of the Tugela river in KwaZulu-Natal in South Africa 15 years ago, and revisited it with friends and kids recently. While playing around with the drone I spotted these kayakers and followed them for a while (all part of our party).

Silver Hill Lodge is a Wildlife Sanctuary, a privately owned estate situated in the beautiful Kamberg Valley of the Central Drakensberg with no less than 7 endangered species. It is a mere 35 minutes from Nottingham Road and Mooi River. The Little Berg mountain range, with Mount Cleopatra, Mount Erskine and Mount Lebanon provide the awesome backdrops of the estate.

A turn off onto a side-road in South Africa’s Hluhluwe Game Reserve brought us face-to-face with a troop of young male Rhinos. The group was displeased to have their grazing turf invaded, and proceeded to line up together and face-off with us. We quickly retreated, acknowledging their claim to that particular stretch of road.

A small troop of female Nyala led by a single male cautiously entered the watering hole, pausing every few steps to swivel their ears about. From our blind we had a perfect view, but even the soft clicking of the camera shutters was enough to alert the careful Nyala of our presence.

We didn’t expect to see the variety of wildlife that we did on the day but Africa is full of surprises and the Earth Goddess was not going to disappoint us. We were out and about enjoying the world famous Hluhluwe-Imfolozi Game Reserve in northern KwaZulu-Natal when we came across this jolly family of cool, calm and collected zebra. They are certainly the most easygoing placid animal and did not seem to mind us at all. Off course, seeing this tall, very gentle giant of a giraffe was nothing short of amazing!
